Wix has genuinely improved. It’s more customizable than it used to be and can be tailored to your needs, and we’ve built polished, custom Wix sites for bigger clients too, so it isn’t just a toy. Its SEO has also come a long way in the last couple of years.
That said, in most cases Wix is the right call for a solo operator who wants something simple and live fast without hiring help. The trade-offs: you can’t fully leave the platform later, its SEO is still more limited than WordPress for serious campaigns, and it can get pricey as you add features.
When WordPress wins
You want to own your site, rank well, and have room to grow (blog, store, integrations). It’s the standard for a reason, flexible, SEO-friendly, and you’re never trapped. It benefits from a pro to set up and secure it properly.

Generally yes, WordPress gives full control over technical SEO, structure, and speed. Wix has improved but still limits how far you can optimize.
Can I move off Wix later?
Not cleanly, Wix doesn’t let you export a working site, so switching usually means a rebuild. That lock-in is the main reason to think twice up front.
