How to Choose the Best Hosting Option for Your Online Business

When a rookie in the field of online entrepreneurship has to choose from a wide range of hosting options, they can get quite confused with different terms used in this area. This is why it’s important to spend some time learning more about website infrastructure. After reading this piece, you should get a general idea on the pros and cons of each and every hosting solution.

Your host, their packages, and the server

A business owner who wants to launch a website first has to find a host. This is usually a company that provides Internet users with an agreed number of services that will make a website work. Those are programming features and design solutions that keep the underlying structure of the website, as well as the content published on the website, such as texts and visuals.

Therefore, the host has to rent or buy a server. This is basically a large, powerful computer on which hosts keep the data from their clients’ websites. Also, servers can be located anywhere in the world. Remember well this piece of information and learn why it’s important here.

Virtual private server (VPS) and cloud options

This type of service is recommended for businesses that have already reached a certain level of financial independence. This is so because having your own VPS requires paying a monthly fee. This can vary from $10-15 to several hundred dollars. What you get with a private cloud-based server is a higher level of privacy and security. For instance, having a VPS means that a special part of a large server is reserved only for your business needs. Although there are also other clients and their websites on that server, their presence doesn’t affect yours in any way whatsoever. Moreover, having a VPS includes a high level of scalability, meaning you can change a number of resources, such as RAM, storage space and CPU features on the spur of the moment.

Apart from that, VPSs and cloud options are easily managed and launched these days. For instance, you can work in Italy and find a Web hosting provider in Australia, so as to get the best package for your current budget and business needs.

Dedicated server for big companies

Unlike the aforementioned VPS and the shared server that we’re going to discuss later in the text, a business can rent an entire server. This option is called a dedicated server since it belongs only to one user. On the positive side, you’re in charge of everything happening on that server. From website management to data storage, you have free rein to completely adapt this machine to your preferences. On the negative side, this freedom could turn out to be a disadvantage if you fail to learn how to use it. Because of that, you should learn a lot about hosting and servers or hire a specialist to manage this dedicated server.

Shared server for rookies

The most communal solution of all the hosting options, shared server packages are perfect for small businesses or bloggers. They’re communal mainly because dozens or even hundreds of websites are hosted on the same server, using all its resources at the same time, like some sort of a hosting kibbutz. The main advantage of this hosting option is that it’s affordable. The main drawback, on the other hand, is its public nature. For instance, if you share your server with 100 other website owners and some of them have more than one website, the total number of websites on this server might get up to 300. If only one experiences problems, everybody in its surroundings will suffer. This is called a bad or risky hosting neighborhood and should be avoided. Still, since this kind of hosting is affordable for business beginners, they should at least opt for well-known providers of shared servers. That way, you’ll reduce the potential risk of website downtime.

Your final decision will depend on your budget and business policy. While cheap and publicly open hosting solutions might work for smaller businesses, established enterprises will incline towards VPS, cloud and dedicated options to ensure better privacy and a higher degree of online independence.

How to Handle an Online Rebrand

There comes a time when a company will need a rebrand and in today's world, much of this happens online. For many companies, especially startups, their online brand is pretty much their entire brand and in such cases, handling a rebrand needs to be done as carefully as possible. Today, we will be looking at everything that you need to keep in mind if you wish to handle your rebrand the right way and not lose customers.

178

Moreover, if you do it just right, you can rest assured that new customers will come flocking.

Know Your Reasons

Before any rebrand, it is absolutely crucial that the people who decide it is necessary know why they have made this decision. There are many companies out there that do their own little rebrands because they think it's time for it. They do it for the fun of it, which is the never a good reason for a rebrand.

There are many reasons why companies rebrand. Perhaps it has decided to go another way with its products or service. Perhaps it has grown from a 3-person startup into a 300-person company. Perhaps it is changing the address and moving to another country where the current logo and color palette may seem insensitive.

Of course, there is always the chance a company does it because the consumers are not responding to it. However, if this is the case, you need to be sure that they are not responding to the brand as such. In order to be sure, you need numbers and not just a hunch. For example, you can have someone do paid surveys for you and tell you exactly what your consumers and potential consumers think about your brand. If it is really due to your brand, then rebrand.

The important thing is that you do not change your brand dramatically just because you feel like it. You will be losing valuable customers.

Approach Professionals

We live in a world where everyone thinks they know everything. Nowhere is this more noticeable than in the world of web-based companies and "experts" who think that just because they played with a website creator of some kind, they know how to pull off a thorough rebrand.

There is a reason why there are branding companies out there. Building a brand and especially rebranding an already existing company is intricate work and something people perfect for years and decades.

For example, a logo is not just a pretty picture and the name of the company. Just take a look at this great example from Fivenson Studios. It is a great logo and the insights that are provided in this article show exactly how much work a single logo is. Let alone an entire rebrand.

Because of this, you will always want professionals to handle your rebrand. The chances are you need a rebrand because the people who did your original brand were not exactly the masters of their trade. It does not even matter. A rebrand needs to be done fantastically sensitively so as not to alienate existing fans of the brand while opening it up for others.

2

Keep Social Media In Mind

Today, when companies rebrand, there is another outlet they have to keep in mind and that is the social media. In 2011, the Qwikster/Netflix rebrand was handled very poorly on social media, most prominently due to the fact that the new name was already taken by a high-school pothead on Twitter.  It was hardly the biggest problem of this disastrous rebrand, but it happened nonetheless.

Social media profiles need to follow the rebrand step-by-step and they should be at the forefront of the rebrand when customers are in question. In fact, social media profiles can be a great way to gauge what people think of your new ideas. If you think that people enjoy your rebranding efforts on social media, it is probably a sign you are going in the right direction.

Of course, the professionals that you have hired to do your rebrand will take care of the visual aspects of rebranding you on social as well and this should never be ignored.

A great example of good rebranding and utilizing the social media to move it along was Airbnb's 2014 rebrand that started off less than spectacularly, with people knocking on their new logo. However, with a great social media campaign that followed, people forgot all about their qualms about the logo. Airbnb's social media storytelling saved the day.

In short, if you want a rebrand that will make sense for you, make sure you are doing it for the right reasons, hire professionals to handle the biggest part of it and do not forget to rebrand on social media.

How the Web Helps Smaller Companies Attract and Retain Top Talent

Attract and Retain Top Talent-fivenson studios graphic design and web design studios ann arbor michigan

You will often hear managers and CEOs of large companies say how their employees are their most valuable asset. Then, a week later, they will fire a thousand people because their last quarterly revenue was 0.005% lower than was expected.

The good news is that the situation is somewhat different in small-to-medium businesses where owners and managers need to capitalize on every little advantage they might have over the competition. In many cases, this turns out to be a particularly effective team or even a single employee.

Unfortunately, for many SMBs, it has been historically difficult to attract top talent in their industry and even more difficult to keep these talented people from leaving for greener pastures. Over the last two decades or so, we see this starting to change and a huge part of this process has been the web.

Becoming More Visible

Probably the most obvious way in which the web has changed the way companies attract top talent is that they become more visible thanks to their online presence.

The way people looked for jobs was very different before the proliferation of the internet and the vast majority of job seekers stayed in their own area when looking for business. Small-to-medium companies had very limited options when trying to attract people from other parts of the country, let alone the world.

Today, companies can put their listings on directories and job websites around the world, finding a way to people who would not be aware of them two decades ago. They can also use social media and blogging to make people take notice of them and consider them as their new employer. They can start a YouTube channel where they will talk about their industry and thus widen their reach, so to say.

The options are endless and the best thing is that they allow for a reach that is historically unprecedented.

Sending a Message Across

Simply being present online is not enough to attract talented people who will want to become your employees. Your online presence needs to be accompanied by a message that will let them know this is the place where they will thrive.

For example, a modern website with a great design will definitely cause people to sit up in their chairs. The design should always be appropriate and give the potential employee the exact feel of what they might expect from this company. About Us pages are very important, as are the pages where the company's team is introduced.

A company also needs to be very careful about their social media presence, displaying a certain business philosophy that will help attract top talent. For example, if they wish to come across as a laid-back place where individuality is valued, the company will display this side of them on the social media by posting funny content and making everything seem more like fun than work. A company that wishes to come across as the beacon of professionalism and the leading expert in the field will not be posting gifs of cats and babies.

Also, companies need to be careful not to be lame on social media.

Keeping the Employees on Board

Once a company steals the heart of the top person for the job and they become an employee, the second part of the job starts, i.e. keeping this new employee on board and satisfied. Once again, the web can play a huge role here.

For one, your company can give this new employee a way to show off their expertise and knowledge. Ask them to be featured on the company blog. Make sure to announce their hiring as big news for your company. Make them feel welcome. People appreciate being welcome online.

Of course, it goes beyond this. Internet also allows you to give your top talent a bit of leeway when it comes to working from home. With a bit of help from quality employee management software (that does most of its stuff online), your new employee will be able to concentrate on their work and not pointless admin.

While it may feel a bit like snooping, you can also check your new employee's social profiles from time to time and try to gauge their feelings about the new workplace. If you feel they are not content and might be pondering leaving, this can help you make all the right moves to dissuade them from this.

Closing Word

The internet has become an inseparable part of the work culture and it would be outright ridiculous to try and ignore this fact. For employers, it can become a great ally when it comes to attracting talented people and keeping them happy.

And the best thing is that it costs almost nothing.

How to Prepare Your Business for the Online Debut

How to Prepare Your Business for the Online Debut -designed by fivenson studiosFivenson Studios Michigans #1 Graphic Design, Web Design, Branding, Advertising & Full-Service Agency

Improvisation is not a desirable feature in the business world. What is appreciated in this environment are clear and straightforward goals. Moreover, you also need practical and simple strategies for achieving those goals. On top of it all, they all have to be ready before you launch the business. So, here are some must-do things before you start your business enterprise.

01 (2)

Where are you off to?

The process of daydreaming about your future business can bring more benefits than it might seem. While you are imagining your own company, your employees and the work itself, try to set your main goals. Where do you want to get in the first six months? How about the first two years? Write down your visions and concerns. Also, think of the worst scenario that could happen. By going through different options in your head, you will develop a defense mechanism that will keep you stable when you come across some obstacles.

SEO and magic words

The most important aspect of your online presence is the visibility of your website. It can be compared to the location of an offline store. If it is secluded far away from the eye of the public, it will not sell too many products. Speaking in online terms, what you want to reach is the first page of search engine results. Everything below that level is considered an SEO failure. To get there, you need to understand how search engines work and make them find your website by using the most important keywords for your niche. Because of that, before you start a big business website, try to learn more about SEO, keywords and all that stuff by launching a blog on one of the free blogging platforms.

Pick your market targets

When you are thinking about having a company of your own, that vision has to contain the products you want to sell and the people that are going to buy them. The more you think about them, the clearer concept you will get in your mind. Therefore, as you sit down to write your business plan, you have to incorporate the most important information on that target audience into it. For instance, their age, social groups, interests and professions should all be included in that plan. Also, if you need to address new clients and markets, think about implementing some handy telemarketing techniques into your business agenda and see how they can help you find the right market targets.

02 (3)

In-advance sales strategies

Selling your knowledge packed in the products and services you offer is the ultimate goal of your entire business effort. This is why you should know in advance what and how you will be selling. Moreover, your entire business has to be ready for the moment Internet users start visiting your website and ordering things from you. To ensure smooth traffic that will yield high revenue, your website has to be a well-organized unit, accessible from different gadgets. Also, equipping your website with several payment options will turn potential customers into buyers. Because of that, include such solutions into your website.

Now that you have prepared all the features recommended in this piece, you are ready for the online debut. Get ready for a rollercoaster of requests, complaints, purchases, successes and failures. However, if you run your business with devotion and determination, your ride to the peak will be smooth and easy.

Happy 4th Of July

4th of july

Independence Day of the United States, also referred to as the Fourth of July or July Fourth in the U.S., is a federal #holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, by the Continental Congress declaring that the thirteen American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation, the United States of America, and no longer part of the British Empire.[1] Independence Day is commonly associated with #fireworks, parades, #barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, family reunions, and political speeches and ceremonies, in addition to various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States. What Makes a Great Logo Design?

The Nike Swoosh, the Coca-Cola cursive and Apple’s apple: great brands have great logos. These logos convey the brand’s message to millions of people every day, just by being visible.

If your company is looking to make an impression and grow in the marketplace, you’ll need a logo. Fortunately, a good graphic designer can create one for you. While the price tags for those famous logos we mentioned earlier vary widely, you can get a brand-building logo for a budget price. Creating a logo is about more than eye-catching pictures. There are many things to consider when choosing the right logo for your company, so today we’re going to take a deeper look at the logistics of logos.

Talking Text

Unless your logo is internationally recognized like Nike or Apple, adding your name to the graphic is crucial to building your brand awareness. That means you’re going to need some text. The words you include in your logo do more than just convey your message, for starters. They also represent the “look” of your brand. Great graphic designers know how to use different fonts to convey different meanings and emotions to their audiences. Being legible isn’t enough, unfortunately. Your text has to convey a notion as well, and your graphic designer can help you find the right text for your logo.

Eye-catching Color

Colors aren’t just for sports teams. Companies can and should have colors as well, and those colors should be represented in the logo. It’s important, of course, to choose your colors wisely. The colors you select can have a big impact on your company’s future business success.

Start by remembering that certain colors convey certain emotions. If your goal is to make your logo look young and exciting, you may want to select a bright color like red or yellow. However, if your goal is to have your logo look cool and refined, darker colors, like blue, are the better choice. Color psychology is very real and a good graphic designer can use it to your advantage.

It’s also worth pointing out that you don’t need to have any color at all. A great logo should look as good in black and white as it does in any color shade. The Nike swoosh is a great example.

Finally, just like your text, simplicity is king when it comes to selecting colors for your logo. That means limiting your color selections to 3 or fewer; it’s worth noting that a single color may be all you need.

Creating a Great Graphic

When most people think of a brand’s logo, they think of the graphic, so make your graphic count. Any logo can look good on a masthead, but a professional graphic designer can help you create a graphic that also looks good on stationery, apparel, advertisements and on the Web.

Graphics that possess these qualities are professionally created, not clip art. They are also scalable and, like the text and color selections, simple. Perhaps most importantly, a good logo graphic is also timeless. Your company is going to be around for generations, and so should your logo.

More cost effective than you think

For your business to grow and build brand reputation, you need a great logo – something that symbolizes your company every time it appears and conveys the message you want to your customers, now and for the years ahead. But that doesn’t mean your logo has to cost you thousands of dollars. Fivenson Studios design team has been empowering companies for years by creating one-of-a-kind logos for affordable prices.

Logo Design

The core piece on all your marketing efforts is your logo. Your company's logo is the first place where prospects will have contact with your company. If your logo is out of date or poorly constructed then you can be sure that you will lose business from your prospects or target audience. Many times an innovative and intriguing logo is what will make your prospects interested enough in your company to want to do business with you or at least find out what it is you do.

Our approach is to create fresh, innovative logos for our clients that establish branding identity, capture the attention of your target audience and tell the story of your business

Happy Father’s Day

happy fathers day fivenson studios graphic design and web design studios
We just wanted to say Happy Father’s Day to all the new dads, old dads, granddads, dads-in-law, stepdads, serious dads, goofball dads and all the other dads out there. HAPPY FATHER’S DAY
Father's Day is such a well-recognized holiday it can seem like it's always been around — but it's actually pretty recent. And once upon a time, lots of the country's dads were opposed to it.

The holiday was invented by a woman who really liked her dad. Sonora Smart Dodd, a woman from Spokane, WA, was inspired to create Father's Day after listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. "Don’t you think fathers deserve a place in the sun, too?" she is said to have asked the minister. Dodd's own mother had died and she and her siblings had been raised by their father.

Dodd picked June for the celebration (the month of her dad's birthday) and in 1910, the first Father's Day was celebrated in Spokane. The day didn't become official nationwide until 1972, when Nixon officially declared the third Sunday of every June Father's Day.

Apparently, part of the delay was due to male resistance to the idea. NBC writes, "American historian Timothy Marr wrote in American Masculinities: A Historical Encyclopedia that in the holiday's early decades, men 'scoffed at the holiday’s sentimental attempts to domesticate manliness with flowers and gift-giving, or they derided the proliferation of such holidays as a commercial gimmick to sell more products — often paid for by the father himself.'"

Evidently, those attitudes have changed — Wikipedia lists over 130 countries that celebrate Father's Day throughout the year. Besides the United States, 75 others celebrate on the third Sunday of June. These include China, India, Japan, Mexico, and the United Kingdom.

Hallmark estimates that 80 million cards will be exchanged this Sunday, making it the fourth biggest card-sending day of the year. If you're not among that 80 million, just remember: late is better than never!

How to Teach that Tech Ignorant Inside You for Faster Business Growth

it's the time of technology Fivenson Studios is based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, our graphic design team specializes in logo and webpage design, as well as marketing campaigns f

Businesspeople should know that this is the time of technology. While young entrepreneurs realize how important it is to master at least some tech-related basics in the modern business world, their middle-aged and elderly colleagues often still treat tech innovations like a temporary incident. According to a study, our productivity has increased for more than 80% since the 1970s, as a result of unparalleled technological growth. So, how should a poorly educated business owner, tech-wise, start using modern business solutions?
01

Sales funnel automation

If you are planning to launch (and run a business) in the online space, you are probably not doing that for a charity. Every online business presence is meant to bring a profit. The tiny problem with this end goal is that thousands of businesses are trying to do the same. Therefore, you need to narrow down your marketing goals as much as possible and get a chance to cater a smaller number of well-aimed business targets. This is where sales funnel automation comes on stage. When your business efforts are enhanced with some cutting-edge software tools, your sales funnel can become an automated feature that generates new leads and increases your sales. Guys from Businessnewsdaily.com have made a resourceful overview of some modern CRM software tools for sales automation. You can have a better look at them here.

A smartphone world

The tagline of the modern world could be contained in the phrase ”A Smartphone World“, sung to that old Talking Heads tune ”Wild Wild Life“. Business owners whose mission is to keep giving their businesses a steady upward nudge in the years to come have to realize that smartphone services should be high on their list of priorities. No matter how unbelievable their potentials might sound, these devices should provide inspiration for new business moves. First of all, modern entrepreneurs should expose themselves to smartphone apps, just to get the gist of how they work. Secondly, they should start using business apps as work add-ons, too. They can speed up the entire work (and) organization process, as well as boost productivity. Finally, using smartphones at work has to be accompanied by proper utilization of cloud services.

The online data realm

The times when people used to work in computer-packed offices are behind us. The most incredible thing is that those times were reality only five years ago. Today, however, with the unbelievable expansion of the online data realm, also known as the cloud, business owners reduce the number of devices in their offices and go for a growing number of cloud packages. Cloud solutions are especially convenient for small business owners. Instead of wasting a fortune on software licenses, today you can simply "rent" a software service for a certain period of time (just like a movie from Netflix).

What is more, the option to use cloud storage space is threatening to send hard disks to an early grave, too. From free initial packages to terabytes of paid online space, using avant-garde cloud storage options can undoubtedly accelerate your business growth.

002

The essence of visuals

If you have at least average perceptual skills, you must have noticed how everything around us is turning visual. While TV-commercials and billboards are old news, the modern Internet knows no boundaries, so visual content dominates the World Wide Web today. This trend offers certain possibilities for business owners. For instance, you can adorn your website with some unique photos that will make a difference by inspiring your occasional visitors to become regulars. Since it is difficult to find original but affordable photos, this procedure can be done much faster through some user-friendly Bulkr options that will speed up the photo-seeking process and fit into every budget.

Of course, when it comes to visual business content, handy services for making concise video content, such as Vine, should also be taken into consideration.

Business owners who start using at least some of the services presented here can already consider themselves much tech-savvier than they were before they read this text. Have no fear of new technology and get to know it, so as to make it work for your business cause.

Nadella went on to mention how Microsoft's Office software suite could be combined with LinkedIn's network in the future, such as the ability for Microsoft to serve up suggestions for a specialized expert through LinkedIn when its software recognizes you're trying to complete a specific task.

"We are in pursuit of a common mission centered on empowering people and organizations. Along with the new growth in our Office 365 commercial and Dynamics businesses this deal is key to our bold ambition to reinvent productivity and business processes," Nadella wrote.

"Think about it: How people find jobs, build skills, sell, market and get work done and ultimately find success requires a connected professional world. It requires a vibrant network that brings together a professional's information in LinkedIn's public network with the information in Office 365 and Dynamics. This combination will make it possible for new experiences such as a LinkedIn news feed that serves up articles based on the project you are working on and Office suggesting an expert to connect with via LinkedIn to help with a task you're trying to complete."As these experiences get more intelligent and delightful, the LinkedIn and Office 365 engagement will grow.

In turn, new opportunities will be created for monetization through individual and organization subscriptions and targeted advertising.
